![]() Speaking of which, busted boob tubes are found littered along your path through Little Nightmares 2’s gloomy narrative, which appears to be a sardonic commentary on the screen obsession of modern society. It also breaks the immersion somewhat that Mono is so easily spotted the moment he sets foot outside of the shadows, yet Six can seemingly stumble around in the spotlight right under an enemy’s nose and attract about as much attention as a broken television set. While Six’s inclusion eventually has a surprising story pay-off late in Little Nightmares 2 - in a way I won’t spoil here - her presence feels largely underutilised for the bulk of the adventure. But much like a little sister, Six also often finds herself getting in the way, stubbornly standing still to block your path while you’re dragging a piece of furniture, or accidentally nudging you out of cover when you’re trying to remain hidden from the watchful gaze of a wide-eyed warden. It’s admittedly quite adorable the way Six will occasionally mimic Mono’s actions when he picks up an important puzzle item, she’ll often scoop up a wooden building block and amble along behind him, shadowing him like a younger sibling. ![]() There aren’t any complex mechanisms that demand to be operated in tandem, and it doesn’t really ever get more dynamic than simple synchronised acts like climbing on top of a piano lodged among some broken floorboards and timing your jumps so that the combined force of your landing can propel it downward into the basement. Yes, there’s a dedicated input for beckoning her over to your position, but I don’t really recall ever actually needing to use it in order to coordinate a way towards a puzzle solution. This obviously helps to minimise trial and error in more high pressure sequences, but her companionship doesn’t really introduce much in the way of teamwork as far as puzzles are concerned. Instead, Six acts as a handy guide whenever one of Little Nightmares 2’s adult antagonists gives chase, blazing a trail a few yards in front of you and indicating, for instance, which crate to hide behind a split second before a lumbering farmer can unload a shotgun spray. Six’s role is that of a slightly more proactive version of Yorda from Ico, but her relationship with Mono doesn’t really evolve into the partnership that made the PS2 classic so special. ![]() Additionally, Mono is equipped with the services of Six herself, since she tags along as an AI-controlled partner through much of the journey. The key difference here is Mono’s ability to pick up and wield a handful of different weapons to either smash through specific sections of the scenery, or to swat away smaller enemies like the disembodied hands that stalk you through Little Nightmares 2’s hospital level. New protagonist Mono may look different to the original game’s Six, donning a paper bag mask in place of her distinctive yellow raincoat, but his skill set is largely the same. ![]() ![]() ![]() (Note: monthly uniques is different from total page views. The Othilla rune is one of the most popular runes among practitioners of Norse magic. However, it has been revived in recent years by people who are interested in paganism and Norse mythology. The Elder Futhark fell out of use after the Christianization of the Germanic peoples in the 11th century AD. At least 6 can be considered a dedicated rune for strength, these are Uruz, Hagalaz, Nauthiz, Isa, Sowulo, and Othillo. Each rune had its own meaning and purpose, and some were believed to have special powers. These rune symbols were carved into wood or stone for use as magical amulets or talismans. The name “Elder Futhark” comes from the first six runes of the alphabet: Fehu (F), Uruz (U), Thurisaz (TH), Ansuz (A), Raidho (R), and Kaunan (K), and can therefore be literally translated as “the old ABC’s”. The Elder Futhark is a rune alphabet that was used by the Germanic peoples of northern Europe, Scandinavia, and the British Isles during the Early Middle Ages. ![]() There are many other rune meanings, to see them all, check out our Complete Elder Futhark Rune Guide The Elder Futhark What is the Elder Futhark? These symbols were often inscribed on weapons and armor, as well as on other objects that Viking warriors wanted to imbue with their own strength and power. Other common strength symbols include the hammer of Thor, which was said to be so powerful that it could level mountains, and the sword of Freyr, which was said to be able to cut through anything. One of these runes was believed to imbue the wearer with all the strength and power of an ox, making them virtually unbeatable in combat. One of the most prominent of these is a rune for strength. However, only the Elder Futhark contains Gebo and Wunjo, which are very important when speaking about runes for love and connection.Viking culture has a number of symbols that represent strength and power. The Younger Futhark has eight fewer runes than the Elder Futhark. The Runic alphabet in Younger Futhark is just a shortened version of Elder Futhark so that the same rune symbols will retain their meaning. Are the Elder Futhark Rune Meanings different than the Younger Futhark Rune Meanings? The runes on Odin’s spear Gungnir ensured that no matter who threw the spear or from how far away, Gungnir would always hit its mark. These symbols were later carved into the weapons of the Norse gods, giving them incredible powers. Odin learned of their power and all the things each symbol stood for. On the ninth day, the runes were revealed to Odin. While Odin was an immortal god, he hung himself from the branches of Yggdrasil for nine days and nine nights as a symbolic sacrifice. He often visited the god of wisdom Mimir’s well near the roots of Yggdrasil. The Norse god Odin was a voracious seeker of knowledge. In Norse mythology, the story of the Runic alphabet is simple. Historically, scholars have argued several possible origins from Phoenician to Old Italics origin, but no consensus has been reached. Norse mythology tells us that the Runic alphabet was a gift to humans from the Norse god Odin. *Make sure to also check my article on Viking art. the Anglo-Saxon (Old English) Rune Poem.Runic poetry listed the names and explanation of every rune, one for each stanza. ![]() Even the Runic alphabet itself was learned orally. The Germanic people preferred passing down their stories, poems, and other information orally in the Old Norse language. Carving runes was also tedious, so runes were reserved for the most important uses. While the Runic alphabet could be used to write words down, it was a complicated process. Viking warriors also carved these magic symbols on their weapons and other possessions to imbue the object with some of the rune symbol’s powers. These Germanic tribes used these Norse symbols to memorialize lost loved ones and to communicate through carvings on trees, stones, and other hard surfaces. Nordic runes are a writing system used by the Scandinavian people of the Viking Age. Uruz can also be combined with Gebo (gift) or Othala (wisdom). Uruz can be combined with many other runes, including Hagalaz, for strength. ![]() ![]() ![]() There’s no need to download, install, or sign up for any kind of service. We're officially masters of molecular masses.īrain SnackJeremias Benjamin Richter (1762-1807) (not to be confused with Andy Richter) was the first guy to lay down the principles of stoichiometry. ![]() We need to arrange the conversion factor in whichever way will allow us to do that. Remember, if a unit appears above and below the fraction line they will cancel each other out. We just need to use the conversion factor that will give us the right units in the end. What gives? Why do we need two conversion factors? We don't. Note: we multiply by 4 because there are 4 hydrogen atoms in each CH 4. Molar mass of CH 4 = atomic mass carbon + 4(atomic mass of hydrogen) We need to collect the atomic masses of carbon and hydrogen from the periodic table and then calculate the molecular mass of CH 4 by simple addition. Once again, the periodic table is your BFF. This means we need a conversion factor between grams and moles. How many moles of CH 4 are present in 4.83 g of CH 4?įirst of all, we are given grams of CH 4 and asked to solve for moles of CH 4. Who knew we were drinking so many molecules? Sample ProblemOne of the main components of natural gas is methane (CH 4). Think about that next time you down a glass of water. That means every 1.2 tablespoons of water contains 6.023 x 10¬ 23H 2O molecules. Those 18.02 grams represent one mole of water. Roughly 1.2 tablespoons of water is equal to 18.02 grams. That means 1 mole of water is equal to 18.02 g. ![]() Lucky for us (thanks again to the chemistry gnomes), its molar mass is 18.02 g. We just calculated the molecular mass of water to be 18.02 amu. The molar mass of a compound (in grams) is numerically equal to its molecular mass (in amu). We don't even need a calculator to compute between molecular mass and molar mass…the values are numerically the same. Just as the name suggests the molar mass is the mass (in grams) of one mole of a compound. Molecular mass H 2O = 2(1.008 amu) + 16.00 amu = 18.02 amuįrom the molecular mass we can determine the molar mass of a molecule. We know, we heart the periodic table, too. Where do we find the atomic mass of H and O? Whip out your favorite periodic table. Molecular mass H 2O = 2(atomic mass of H) + atomic mass of O What's the molecular mass of water (H 2O)? To calculate the molecular mass we add together the atomic mass of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom: The molecular mass (sometimes called the molecular weight) is just the sum of the atomic masses in a molecule. We don't want to offend all the atoms out there.) If we know the atomic masses of individual atoms, we can easily calculate the mass of a molecule. Atoms are so small, however, that even 500 atoms are too small to see or measure by most common techniques. Now that we know all about atomic masses we can move on to bigger and better things…molecules. Sheets of printer paper are packaged in reams of 500, a seemingly large number. For example, cans of soda come in a six-pack, eggs are sold by the dozen (12), and pencils often come in a gross (12 dozen, or 144). Many familiar items are sold in numerical quantities with distinct names. The unit that provides this link is the mole (mol), from the Latin moles, meaning “pile” or “heap.” To analyze the transformations that occur between individual atoms or molecules in a chemical reaction, it is therefore essential for chemists to know how many atoms or molecules are contained in a measurable quantity in the laboratory-a given mass of sample. In the laboratory, for example, the masses of compounds and elements used by chemists typically range from milligrams to grams, while in industry, chemicals are bought and sold in kilograms and tons. Because the masses of individual atoms are so minuscule (on the order of 10 −23 g/atom), chemists do not measure the mass of individual atoms or molecules. The problem for Dalton and other early chemists was to discover the quantitative relationship between the number of atoms in a chemical substance and its mass. It also describes the law of multiple proportions, which states that the ratios of the masses of elements that form a series of compounds are small whole numbers. _3(PO_4)_2 = 310.177 \, amu \nonumber \]ĭalton’s theory that each chemical compound has a particular combination of atoms and that the ratios of the numbers of atoms of the elements present are usually small whole numbers. ![]() ![]() ![]() As of iOS 15 Apple has also started adding this information, with turn lanes, bus and taxi lanes, and crosswalks.
